Hiking trails Brazil
Brazil is a vast country with numerous hiking options spread across its territory. Being from Santos/SP, a city reasonably close to one of Brazil’s main mountaineering hubs in the Serra da Mantiqueira, just four hours away by car, my knowledge is more focused on this region. However, I have also hiked in other states, which are just as beautiful as the Serra da Mantiqueira.
In Rio de Janeiro, we have the famous Petrópolis-Teresópolis crossing, which lasts about three days with two nights of camping. In Minas Gerais, the most famous is the Serra Fina crossing, which also consists of three days of hiking and two nights camping under the moon and stars. The Itatiaia National Park holds a special place in my heart, with a small base that offers infrastructure, including bathrooms and rooms for those without tents to avoid sleeping in the open.

Before embarking on one of these journeys, it is very important to pay attention to the region's climate and the chosen days for the hike.
Weekends and holidays tend to be very crowded. In the case of Pico Paraná, due to the limit of four tents allowed to camp at the summit, it is possible to arrive there and find no space to camp, forcing you to return and camp at an earlier spot. For Itatiaia National Park, you need to buy tickets in advance, as the entry is limited. Additionally, avoid hiking during rainy seasons as access becomes very dangerous due to sudden rains and the risks they bring. The best time to enjoy these trails is from April to September/October, when the weather is drier, and the conditions are more favorable for trekking. Moreover, it is advisable to hike with guides, as they can provide accurate information about the best days and are familiar with the area. Many trails are not maintained and it is very easy to get lost in the wilderness.
Among the countless trails where you can camp overnight, I have listed some and will talk a little about each:

Pico Santo Agostinho (Garrafão)
Situated in Alagoa, Minas Gerais, Pico Santo Agostinho (Garrafão) offers a moderate difficulty trail with panoramic views that reward the efforts of adventurers.
Pico Papagaio
Located in Aiuruoca, Minas Gerais, Pico do Papagaio offers a spectacular panoramic view. The trail is of moderate difficulty and is ideal for those seeking a deep connection with nature.
Pico Caratuva
Also in Paraná, Pico Caratuva is the second-highest mountain in the region. The trail is less challenging than Pico Paraná but offers equally magnificent views.
Quiriri
A lesser-known trail located on the border between Paraná and Santa Catarina. It offers untouched landscapes and a tranquil experience for hikers.
Itatiaia National Park
A natural gem with various trails for all skill levels. The park offers basic infrastructure, such as bathrooms and rooms, making it accessible for all types of adventurers.
Serra Fina (MG)
One of the most challenging and rewarding crossings in Brazil, located in the Serra da Mantiqueira. It requires physical and mental preparation, but the views and experience are worth every effort.
These trails not only provide physical challenges but also a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and discover the unexplored beauty of Brazil. Each trail offers a singular and unforgettable experience for all lovers of outdoor adventures.
